40 feet isn’t very far, unless you’re tilling it.

We cleared out some space for the herbal tea garden, about 40 x 30. I used the tiller to break up the grass roots. They were pretty thick, so I didn’t get more than about 4 inches of top soil turned over, but it should help to make room for the new plants roots.

Mom helped me move some leftover horse panels around the space to hopefully keep the deer out. I’m hoping it’s small enough they won’t want to jump over the panels to get into the space. I’m also hoping that planting deer resistant things helps keep them disinterested in trying.

I covered the ground with the landscape fabric to help get rid of/manage the grass. I’ve put in 2 rows of echinacea, 2 rows of Grosso lavender, 2 rows of French Provincial lavender, and 1 row of peonies. I’ll add chamomile and calendula when Spring arrives.
I will have pretty cut flowers all season long, and flowers from which I can make essential oils, jellies, syrups, and dried teas. Strictly speaking, teas made from herbs and flowers are tisanes, rather than teas, but we call them teas.
